Production

Separating out all the different aspects of music-making can be an impossible task, but I like to think of music production as the creative process of taking a song or a piece of music and crafting how it should sound. It includes figuring out the instrumentation to be used and finding the right tones and vibe to fit the project. Arranging the musical sections, adding instrumental parts, and highlighting iconic elements of a song all fall under the wide and amorphous umbrella that is production. All of this is a process that is shared by the artist and the producer or audio engineer to varying degrees, and at the end of the day, the production should highlight the best qualities of the artist and the song, and it should most importantly align with the ARTIST's vision.

Through the production process, we will work together to create a fully arranged and fleshed out song or musical piece no matter what stage your musical endeavor is at. Brick & Porter Audio has taken on all sorts of projects and each one comes with a unique set of production needs and goals. Some of these services I offer include:

  • Full band accompaniment and arrangement for a solo musician
  • Session musician for a full band arrangement
  • Podcast Theme Music
  • Radio Segment production

Recording

Brick & Porter offers recording services from my home studio near midtown Tucson. The studio is equipped to record anything from vocals to a full rock band.

Editing

The process of creating a finished product that is professional and radio-ready can require a good deal of editing. Whether it is aligning drums or correcting performance errors or using pitch correction on vocals, when I am editing, I always make sure that there will be no mistakes that will distract the listener from enjoying the music you create. Not all music is subject to the same amount of scrutiny, of course. What a listener expects from a Celine Dion song will be much different from what they expect when listening to the Ramones. Some songs require a pristine, glossy finish while others benefit from a more raw and less polished sound.

For me, making the music sound professional and well performed while keeping a natural and classic vibe that doesn't strip the performance of its soul is the key.

Mixing

As with editing, mixing is all about balance. Finding the right balance of instruments and effects to make a cohesive sound is crucial, as is finding the right balance in the overall impression that the song gives. At Brick & Porter Audio, I aim to create a mix that is professional and fits right alongside modern radio songs while also having a unique and timeless sound. I am most inspired by the songs where you can instantly tell the artist before any singing starts. Every artist I have worked with has brought a unique vision or style to the music they create, and highlighting that in an artful and professional way is the most rewarding part of working on any new project.

Mastering

If you have a mix that is almost ready but needs that final push to get it finalized for radio or streaming platforms, take advantage Brick & Porter Audio's mastering services. I will shape your song using tools such as EQ and compression and limiting in order to make your song loud and ready to fit the standards of the modern music landscape, without squashing the life out of it.
